Job Description

SCOPE:**The incumbent performs routine manual work as needed to maintain grounds and landscaping for all CMHA communities. Operates a variety of mechanical equipment used for grounds keeping operation. Assist with major landscaping projects. Reports to and works under the general supervision, of the Grounds Supervisor.


The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required.

  • Routine use of rototillers, aerators, thatchers, over seeders, and bed edgers in the creations of mass planting and bed maintenance;
  • Perform general landscaping tasks, including planting and pruning of trees and shrubs, setting new beds, laying sod and establishing new lawns, etc.;
  • Sweep and clean walkways and assist in keeping outside premises orderly;
  • Operate power mowers, weed whackers, tractors, small trucks (i.e. Mustang, Bobcat, John Deere), small front-end loaders and snow removal equipment. Ensures appropriate safety precautions are followed at all times;
  • Independently load and transport soil, mulch, trees, and landscaping materials throughout Hamilton County;
  • Remove graffiti from buildings, using sandblasting, steam and other removal techniques;
  • Seasonally, will be assigned to all aspects involved in snow and ice control
  • Independently apply soil amendments, fertilizers, weed control herbicides, using varied equipment;
  • Attend required workshops, seminars, staff meetings, etc. to stay current on job requirements; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each competency satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic reading, writing and arithmetic.


  • High school diploma;
  • Two years previous experience in tree and lawn care required.

EQUIPMENT USED:** Typical equipment used includes, but is not limited to, the following: walk behind and riding mowers; bat mower; chain saw; stump grinder; MadVac Vacuum truck, sandblaster, small front end loaders and pulling trailers.

Performs physical tasks such as extended walking, climbing and lifting. Must be able to lift up to100 lbs. Must work outdoors in all weather conditions. Chemical exposure includes weed killers, lime and a variety of domestic plant fertilizers.

OTHER:**The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in state of residence and an insurable driving record under the terms and conditions of the CMHA auto liability policy.

Job Type: Contract

Pay rate is $15.28/hourly
